I don’t know about you, but I have overindulged in food and drink this summer. And I’m not just referring to quantity – I turned into a nacho munching, french fry loving, vodka drinking fiend.  That’s the only way to describe it. It’s time to stop.

So this morning as I waited for Ms. Irene, I pulled out my Cuisinart stick blender thing-a-ma-gig and whipped up a smoothie.   It was so darn delicious, so detox-healthy, and so snappy-quick to make that I am inspired to tell you about it.  It had a bit of an earthy-crunchy vibe, but really, I didn’t taste spinach – the fruit disguises a lot and makes it sweet tasting.

My husband liked it and I'm sure your kids would too if you told them a story, if you know what I mean.

Someone nutritionally smarter than me can tell you why this is actually healthy, but I can tell you that there is a whole lot of protein, fiber and pure down to earth goodness in this green miracle drink. Try it.

Blend in a tall, 16 oz. plastic cup, approximately:   ¾ cup coconut water, 2 tbsp. Hemp Hearts, 1 tbsp. Vitamineral Green Powder, hand full of spinach, ½ banana, 6-8 strawberries, 10-12 raspberries.

PS I am a copycat when it comes to recipes – the Revitalive smoothie at Revitalive Café was my inspiration and is a great option if you are pinched for time. And, since I used to be a healthy eater I had most these ingredients in the back regions of my refrigerator. You will find the Hemp Hearts at Natural Grocer and Vitamineral Green Powder at Revitalive Cafe both in Newburyport.
